Deaf’s Future Being Happy
I am in the park.
Its lots of teenage people.
I haven’t seen my sister for long time,
“Oh you’re deaf!” said my sister.
I am feeling unhappy.
My sister ran off.
I feel uneasy to communicate with unknown people,
But I enjoy communication with my family.
My family use sign language.
I feel can talk any time with my family.
I feel comfortable.
I want like to have nice new friends
But they couldn’t sign.
I heard about a deaf boy teach his friends to sign.
I think I can possibly teach my friends.
I feel proud.
The riddler
Deaf are the best? ……………………………………
Erm …. Maybe hearing? …………………………….
And maybe both? ……………………………………..
Full Deaf’s ear of low to hear …………………….
All students always sign with their hands …..
Roughly …………………………………………………..
Erm …. What you think? …. Deaf? ………………
Think hearing? …. Maybe Deaf? …………………
Hearing are the best? ……………………………….
Erm ……… Maybe deaf? …………………………….
Both? ……… Deaf? … or … Hearing? ……………
Erm …. What you think? …. Hearing? ………….
So ………..
Think your answer? ….. Dunno? ………………….
Deaf versus hearing
Deaf can challenge hearing
Hearing can challenge Deaf
Whatever we win we lose!
Hearing’s world is very powerful
They listen to words and pick up some words!
Deaf’s sign is very powerful
They watch and learn and pick up some sign.
Hearing can’t sign very well but speak very good and better than deaf.
Deaf can’t speak very well but sign strongly and better than hearing.
Hearing could learn sign language
Deaf could improve their speech skills
That would be equal!
Hearing can hear anywhere but….
Deaf can see anywhere…
That would be equal!
Hearing can listen on the phone and talk to mates! But….
Deaf can text on the phone and keep in touch forever..
That would be equal !
Deaf as a post or deaf at the winning post.
Hearing as a bat but blind to all things around.
Hearing can turn into deaf. But…
Deaf can’t turn into hearing.
THAT WOULD BE THE END!
La Toya
La Toya stayed with her auntie
When she was just about one year old.
That night, when she slept
Her auntie switched the light off…
La Toya started to scream.
She wanted to keep her eyes open.
La Toya’s Auntie switched the light on …
La Toya stopped crying.
La Toya’s auntie knew there was something wrong with her
She had a good idea …
She picked up some pans and made a noise
BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG
Auntie said something wrong
La Toya was born profoundly deaf.
La Toya doesn’t mind she is deaf!
She loves sign language.
She is never embarrassed when she signs in public.
She is the only deaf person in her family.
She is very outgoing,
She gets very excited and she is always a happy girl!
Her dream is to become an actress
And to have my own performance company.
Deaf people are not the same as hearing
Deaf people are not the same as each other
They are very different.
Signing, lip-reading, BSL, SSE and spoken English.
Deaf people have lots of differences like hearing people.
Loud, quiet, funny, down to earth and loyal
In the world, there are lots of different people
Disabled, deaf, different accents, different languages
Whatever they are
It is natural!!
Street signs
Laughing, giggling, chatting, all in a good mood.
BANG!
Suddenly our moods changes
We walking on and on, without saying a word
Everyone staring at us with those big beady eyes, like a hawk,
as if we have done something wrong.
We carry on and on and again we are in a good mood
Again goes BANG!
I feel like I want to shout out to everyone
“Haven’t you seen Sign Language before?”
“Have you not met anyone like us?”
But I know I can’t
Everyone is staring at us again.
We feel different inside but do we care?
Some of us do, some of us don’t.
We walk into a street enjoying ourselves then it’s like we came from somewhere else.
Déjà vu, everything starts again.
I don’t want this.
BANG, BANG, BANG!
How do we know what they are thinking?
Why is this all starting again?
Have I been sent back in time?
I want to get out of here.
Deafness
If you talk too fast
I can’t hear
I need to lipread
So please be near
If you want to know about deafness
You should ask me!
I am called Charlotte Westall
Come and meet me!
If you try to sign
It helps me to know what you say
My family and friends
Then we can all play
I AM important!
My name is Mohamed
I like playing with my deaf friends.
I don;t line being deaf sometimes
I go to assembly.
I try my best to listen.
But it is too noisy
I feel un-important
When I was young
I threw my hearing aids.
I was so small
And so silly.
I like helping mum at home.
My sister is deaf.
Sometimes we sign together.
When children say,
“What’s that in your ear?
What’s that in your ear?”
I can’t take it any more.
So I tell them,
“Please don’t ask me that.
I AM DEAF.
Bye Bye!”
